Dan started his dental career in 2004 working as a Dental Nurse in rural Shropshire, motivated to progress with a newfound passion for dentistry he then went on to become a dentist and received his BDS degree from Peninsula Dental School, Plymouth in 2014. Deciding to stay in the Southwest he completed his Dental Foundation Year in Exeter, on the completion of this he then started working here at Wellington Dental Practice in 2015. Wanting to enhance his dental skills and with a passion for periodontology Dan went on to complete a Masters Degree in Periodontology from Plymouth University in 2021, getting an MSc with distinction. As part of his MSc he did a research project into the management of periodontal pockets with the use of amelogenins as an adjunct with non-surgical periodontal treatment.
During his MSc studies Dan has developed enhanced skills enabling him to provide more complex periodontal treatment options, including the surgical management of bone loss due to periodontal disease and elective surgery to assist prosthodontic treatment. It also provided him with the skills to plan treatment with dental implants, hard and soft tissue augmentation and techniques for restoring implants.
Previously Dan has also maintained a Clinical Supervisor position at Peninsula Dental School, facilitating the teaching and clinical skills of third and fifth year undergraduates. Now Dan’s focus is working at Wellington Dental Practice fulltime, providing patients with general dentistry and taking referrals to provide care and treatment for patients with mild to advanced periodontal disease. Dan regularly carries out CPD to stay up to date, carrying out theoretical and hands on courses. He is also a member of The British Society of Periodontology.
