Frequently Asked Questions
The most common alternatives to dental implants are dentures and bridges. Getting a bridge requires attaching false teeth to your existing teeth. This involves filing or modifying the teeth on either side of the missing teeth in order to support the bridge. If the bridge fails, which on average could be within 10 years, it is highly likely that the supporting teeth will be damaged and may result in their loss.
Most people who can undergo tooth extractions or bridgework are suitable for dental implant treatment. A consultation with our implant dental surgeon will help you find out if the treatment is suitable for you.
Your dentist should be able to give you a rough estimate of the treatment time scale after your first consultation. Nowadays, in some cases teeth are fitted at the same time as the implants. Check with your dentist to see if it’s suitable for you. Normally, the new teeth are fitted 2-3 months after placing the implant. In some instances, it might take longer due to the complexity of the case, but your dentist should be able to let you know about this during your treatment.

Trouble Free Extractions
When you are thinking of having dental implants the journey starts from when you lose a tooth or teeth.
We have recently invested in an exciting new technology which greatly reduces the risk of infection, time taken to heal and the quality of gum and bone produced after a tooth is removed. The technology is called platelet rich fibrin (PRF).
A small sample of blood is taken from your arm and our dedicated machine converts the sample into a highly concentrated material (PRF), which is loaded with all the products necessary for fast, trouble free healing.
PRF can be used in a number of different ways. It can be placed into the socket after tooth removal to improve healing, used to thicken the gum around dental implants, mixed with bone graft material to make it heal faster and to stabilise it in the desired position. We are constantly finding new uses for this exciting, new technology.
For more information please ask Andy about it at your consultation.
