Why have dentures?

If you are missing one or more teeth and long to restore your full smile, dentures offer a strong and stable option. They can be easily removed for cleaning any remaining natural teeth, and the denture itself, helping you look after your oral health.

We use the highest quality modern materials to ensure your dentures look beautifully natural. Replacing a full set of teeth with complete dentures provides vital support to your facial structure, keeping it from prematurely sagging around your cheeks and jaw. Partial dentures help your remaining natural teeth stay in position, stopping them moving and causing you problems with misalignment.

What does the treatment involve?

Following a comprehensive consultation, we take digital impressions so a wax model can be produced and checked for fit, bite and comfort. This is changed and adjusted until we are both happy with the look and feel of the model.

Your final set of dentures is manufactured in a laboratory and, when ready, we see you for a fitting appointment. We show you how to fit your full dentures comfortably in the top or bottom of your mouth, or how to hold your partial dentures in place, attached to existing teeth.

It can take a little while to get used to your new dentures, so we give you some tailored tips and advice to help.

Types of dentures

Acrylic dentures

Acrylic dentures are a type of plastic denture that can be used to replace a few teeth or a full arch. Clasps can be added to clip around existing teeth for a very stable result. We can even make dentures with reinforced acrylic for those who are prone to dropping or breaking them, giving added strength.

Precision Cobalt Chrome dentures

Cobalt Chrome dentures are very strong, comfortable and precise, with a minimal design that is very well tolerated by patients. These dentures don’t cover the roof of your mouth, allowing improved taste ability. You need to have some natural teeth left for this type of denture, as they rely on the existing teeth to stay in place and remain stable.

Flexible (Valplast) dentures

Valplast partial dentures are made from a flexible plastic material that fits neatly into your mouth. They are much less visible than more traditional dentures, which can be rigid, bulky and unstable. Valplast dentures also don’t require any unsightly metal clasps to keep them in place, using your remaining natural teeth instead.

Implant-retained dentures

If your full dentures have become loose or uncomfortable, we can use dental implants to hold them securely in place. Two or more implants are placed into your bone, with magnetic or mechanical attachments to allow your denture to click into place and remain stable. Implant-retained dentures also sustain your jawbone, protect your gums and support your face shape.
