Why are hygiene appointments important?

Strong gums mean well-supported teeth and a healthy smile. Our highly skilled hygienists are best placed to look after your oral health, preventing gum disease, decay and other issues by removing plaque and bacteria from your teeth and offering bespoke hygiene therapy advice.

We’re here to support you throughout your oral hygiene journey. Regular appointments give us the chance to check your mouth for early signs of gum disease, and to catch it before it can lead to receding gums and even tooth loss. We can also help motivate you with tips for your brushing routine at home.

What does a hygienist appointment involve?

To begin, we ask you about your oral care routine at home and if you have any areas of concern or anything you’d like to tell us about. We also make sure you are in good overall health and are feeling well.

The majority of your visit involves a scale and polish treatment. We remove stubborn plaque and tartar from all areas of your mouth, especially those that are hard to reach with your toothbrush at home. We then professionally polish your teeth, leaving them looking and feeling smoother, cleaner and brighter.

To finish, we will give tailored advice on how to properly care for your teeth and gums. We can show you how to use interdental cleaning tools properly so you can keep up the hard work at home.
